Ezra was written around 536 B.C.
In the first year of Cyrus King of Persia the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia and He proclaimed throughout all his kingdom, saying that the Lord had told Him to build Him a temple at Jerusalem which was in Judah and the chief of the fathers of Judah, and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites with all them whom God had raised up to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
These were the children which the king of Babylon had carried away to Jerusalem.
When the seventh month came the people gathered themselves together as one at Jerusalem and Jeshua the son of Jozadek and his brethren to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD and had continual burnt offerings unto the LORD.
Then they rose up and begun to build the house, and then Tatnai the governer and his companions and asked them saying who hath commanded you to build this house and to make up this wall, and the jews sent them an answer by letter then Tatnai and his companions sent a letter unto king Cyrus of Persia.
